It's Within Your Power

Have you ever sat around and thought "It would be a much better world if so and so did this, or so and so did that?" Well, have you ever thought that you just might be that "so and so", the one whom the world is waiting to change it? We just saw a prime example in our recent Presidential election of how one person can influence tremedous change and impact and change the world and culture for the better and in a way that has never been seen. So, instead of waiting for Joe Neighbor to get up and make changes in the world and the community in which you live, why don't you? If everybody waited on everybody else to make a move nothing would ever get done. So, step out today, you be that catalyst for change. You may have seen Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech more than once, but in light of this conversation I thought I'd include the link to it from YouTube just as a reminder to all of us to be catalysts for positive and lasting change in our world, culture, society, and communities. Peace.

Are You Helping Someone Today?

One of the most fulfilling aspects of life is to be able to help others. It gets the focus off of ourselves and puts it on others, and when we do this we find that our hours are well spent and our days are fulfilling. Helping others does away with boredom and discontentment. It is exhilarating and helps us find our purpose, that thing God put us on earth to do. Just get out and start helping others and you will find what that "thing" is if you're still searching. Help someone today and daily - it will enrich their life and yours, and you will be beautiful insideout!

Down In the Dumps?

Are you depressed or experiencing feelings of apathy or discouragement? I was thinking about all the many things I could say to be helpful and kept coming back to this one thought - GIVE. One of the best and most fulfilling ways to get through and over depression is by giving to others. When we give to others we make their lives better and it enriches and blesses us as well. I know there are several reasons a person could be depressed, but in many cases when you give of yourself, your time, your talents, your ear, etc., you'll discover that the feeling of depression just leaves. When we give to meet others needs, in whatever way we can bless them, we are giving of ourselves. That, in turn, lifts our spirits because we have reached outward instead of inward. When we make a lifestyle of reaching outward by giving to others and blessing them, we will have joy.

Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

I was watching a program on Feed the Children on television this morning. Right before I really tuned in I had determined what I wanted to write about today and had decided on “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”. Watching this television program just confirmed what I thought I should write about. In a world of hungry and starving children, sickness, and a world where people in places like Sudan make less than $2.00 a day, why do we sweat the small stuff? After watching that program, no one should ever complain about missing a Big Mac, not knowing which pair of their 50 or 100 pairs of shoes to wear, or about their unfulfilling job – if you’ve been watching the news, you know that many people don’t have one. Sometimes we sweat the small stuff – worrying about things we can’t change, trying to change things we should leave alone, trying to change other people. Who can change another person? Leave them alone, just pray for them. Worrying about what people are doing and thinking, especially about what they are thinking about you, is one of the greatest “life” snatchers. Life would be much more simple and happy when we don’t concern ourselves with these things or things we can’t control. So, are you going to snatch your life back today by not sweating the small stuff?

Do You Want Beautiful Skin?

Beautiful skin starts with healthy skin, which means what we put into our bodies - healthy eating habits and drinking lots of water. This means eating some of those foods we hate and not eating some we love. Most of us are familiar with what is healthy – whole grains, vegetables, beans, peas, fruits, nuts, baked and broiled fish and chicken, turkey products, low fat dairy products, etc. But, what’s not so good for our bodies or skin is red meats, pork, butter, white rice, white bread, and sweets. I could go on, but I don’t want to depress you. Oh!, did I mention staying away from sodas. Seriously, the “bad” foods are okay once in a while, but try not to make a habit of eating them. Your cholesterol levels will love you and so will your skin. A book I’d like to recommend that will help you fix healthy and delicious meals in 30 minutes or less is Fit and Fast Meals In Minutes by Prevention. I also recommend Maureen Kennedy Salaman’s book, Foods that Heal, which has a wealth of information on foods you should eat if you have certain diseases. Click on the links on the sidebar for information on these books and/or to order them. Also, the following link will take you to additional information regarding zinc and foods and its connection to healthy, acne-free skin.
